i think that an album from the brand new heavies must come close to making my list of favourite albums - partly depending on just how long that list is, i suppose.
and it'd be quite a close race between 'brother sister' (their 2nd) and 'shelter' ( their 3rd & final album) ... but i think 'shelter' would take the honours in the end.
these albums kind of represent (for want of a better term) some phases of my life (about a decade or more ago) and also they reflect an aspect of my album collection ... but over & above these factors, the brand new heavies' funky / jazzy sounds in their own right warrant inclusion in my fave albums list. for some reason(s) i'm kind of reticent to use the term 'acid jazz' in this context although i'm sure some may not hesitate to do so.
either way u look at it, the bnh do know how to get a groove going i reckon !

i've never quite understood the 'acidjazz' moniker.
It just makes me think of old jazz stars, wacked off their tits on various substances, unable to play the right notes due to their altered states.
Mind you, playing all the wrong notes could be argued to be the very essence of jazz.
So it's "fergal, the diverse". I have no idea about acid jazz as well. What is it? Yep, it's shaping up to be an interesting list. It's getting there, isn't it. ( thought of another one that I listen to all the time over and over - Summertime Dream by Gordon Lightfoot(do not let his name put you off!) )Did enjoy the "tits" comment ,padders.
i've had a few thoughts about the musical genre known as acid jazz - well, as i understnad it anyhow ... i'll try to post some of these soon-ish ... in the meantime, perhaps i can offer the proposal that 'jazz on amphetamines [or modd enhancers]' might be a slightly better name ??

So it's a lot faster than usual? haha.( I'm guessing here - despite appearances to the contrary I have never use any form of drug :) ).
