mr sandman, bring me a dream ...

it seems that dan was right, and also my original impression on seeing what i later thought was a hearse was accurate - it probably was just a black holden "sandman", the iconic australian "shaggin' wagon" from the 1970s.

this is based on the following pics which do show that the sandman's back hatch was high, with it's bottom above the top of the tail-lights. maybe the lower panel/flap (with "sandman" on it) also folds down, like on a ute? also, i guess that a hearse would be more likely to have long windows along the upper side panels.

anyhow, i am not a petrol-head, but here's a little bit of australian motoring history via some classic sandman pics:

a guy i know used to have one, but i think he sold it. he now has some kinda rare racing torana from the mid-late '70s ...

Ok, I might drive one, if it was painted hot pink and purple and had rhinestone covered bumper and side mirrors.

Yeah, and my tag would say "deadsexy".

fergal-you won't be happy, a few years down the track, if a young man comes to pick up your daughter for a date driving one of these!!

lee - yes, true; and he might have his tyres let down, or a brick put thru his windscreen, if he's not careful! ;-D
