i didn't know until yesterday that the buddha's mother died when he was only several days old. not a very good start to life at all for the young buddha, but evidently he ultiamtely overcame the associated, and myriad other, suffering / dukkha ...

kong hai fat choi! [i think that's how it goes]
i.e. happy chinese new year!
they say it's gonna be a dog of a year ... or the year of the dog, at least.
coincidence or not, i watched a curious tv program yesterday about feng shui.
curious concepts indeed - e.g. ensuring ancestors' graves are situated at the metaphorical 'dragon's mouth', ensuring one has, symbolically, the dragon on one side, the tiger on the other, the tortoise behind (for stability etc.), the snake in front ... there is a 5th animal in the mix there too but it's identity escapes me right now ....
not sure about the degree(s) to which i might instantiate such concepts into my own life, but regarding my desk i am in pretty good shape if, for example:
- various teas, a teapot, pens, pencils & phone can be considered the dragon
- piles of papers, books and other associated paper work might embody the tiger
- the back rest of my chair might be the tortoise?
- my keyboard represents the snake

maybe i could use a different tortoise???

australia day yesterday
as a (3rd-generation) australian, i'm not entirely sure about exactly what to make of this day or precisely how to feel about the key event which it commemorates ..... well i ain't really gonna go into too much detail here, at least not now, but i am a lot of my compatriots feel kinda similar, both about australia day and the current australian flag; my main gripe with the latter is that red. blue & white bit which presently takes up the upper left corner ... i don't really see that it's appropriate for it to be there, or at least for it to take up that much space on the australian, particularly in the absence of other flags/symbols .... anyhow, that'll change sooner or later.
and just for the record, i did have a BBQ & watch some cricket on the day ...

aahhh ....
Fearghal O'Fionnagain - that mischievous little imp!
it certainly didn't take him long to track down my embryonic blog & obtain my password ..... i might have known!
you see, Fearghal is .... uummm ..... what would i say? let's say he is some kind of ..... 'ancestral archetype' - type figure to me, if that might make any sense at all? does it need to make sense? well, if for some reason(s) it should, then i hope it does ....
anyhow, Fearghy - aka 'your man there' - is typically harmless enough, and indeed often somewhat amusing in my opinion; in fact it could be fair to say that he is often more mausing than myself (?)
certainly on the basis of this entry along, relative to his previous two entries, i myself would have to say that he probably takes the [space] cake ....
ah well, c'est_la_vie, and credit where it's due ....!
