i have experienced this before, but not for some time ...
for some obscure reason, soon after getting out of bed this morning, i had a strong urge to .....
play the KISS album 'dynasty'!
so i did

ahh KISS - sooo cheeesey they're good! they were actually pioneers in a number of ways, and they did come up with some good rock riffs amongst all the make-up, outfits, 'cock-rock' & hype.

i started with my two favourite tracks on the album, 'magic touch' ("she's got the magic touch / and you're walkin around in a dream") followed by 'hard times' in which ace frehley tells his story of growing up in new york ("we'd go to shccol / and then we'd cut out / go to the park / and space our heads out / we called it fun / but there was some doubt / hangin out down in the city").

then, while eating breakfast & washing up i played the whole album, including the hit singles 'i was made for lovin you' and 'sure know something', the cover version of the rolling stones' '2000 man', and other tracks such as 'x-ray eyes'.

although maybe not their best - i can't really comment cos i haven't heard all their 1970s albums in full - this was a real breakthrough album for KISS and maybe their most commercially successful album (in australia at least). it was the album of theirs which first captured my attention (as a kid!).

anyhow - my advice to u all today is that if u wake up and suddenly feel like playing a certain song or album, then just give it a spin! don't fight the feeling, regardless of how cheesey or tacky it might be.

oh and incidentally - while at work i listened to 'dig your own hole' by the chemical brothers and later, yes, that 'ziggy stardust' one again (with headphones - my work colleagues probably wouldn't have appreciated these good albums!) .

i wonder what i'll fell like hearing tomorrow?

Oh, did you see how gene simmons was on 20 to 1 as one of the world's sexiest people?? Well I nearly threw up!I remember KISS from that time period -just the biggest thing ever.Completely unrelated to throwing up-when I was about 20 would get up and listen to World Party's Private Revolution album (except for the song private revolution because it didn't do a great deal for me)every day while getting ready for work. That went on for months on end. Had forgotten about that.People are odd creatures :).

yeah, karl wallinger-clever fella.

Just to be silly, I googled him. This is what wikipedia says:

Karl Wallinger (born October 19, 1957 in Prestatyn, Wales), is a Welsh musician.

Wallinger was immersed from a young age in the music of The Beatles, Beach Boys, Bob Dylan and Love. Echoes of these childhood heroes permeate the record he was to release thirty three years later. He was educated at Charterhouse, a public school in Surrey.

Wallinger's musical career began in the 1970s with a couple of unsuccessful bands and a brief job in music publishing, after which he became musical director of The Rocky Horror Show. He joined The Waterboys as a keyboardist from 1983-86. Whilst working on his World Party material, he also worked on Sinéad O'Connor's 1987 debut album The Lion and the Cobra - O'Connor also sings some backing vocals on the World Party track "Sweet Soul Dream". Wallinger's first release under the World Party banner, Private Revolution (1987), was a studied, if somewhat over-polished, combination of folk, funk and soul. Its title was a nod to its creation by Wallinger working alone in a home recording studio. It spawned a minor hit single in "Ship of Fools". It was on Goodbye Jumbo that Wallinger attained what – despite another decade in the music industry – is regarded as his creative peak.

Wallinger was also musical director for the 1994 film, Reality Bites, and contributed to the soundtrack of Clueless in 1996. The Wallinger penned "She's The One" has been successfully covered by Robbie Williams (another Williams hit, "Angels" was co- written by Guy Chambers, who was originally with World Party). Wallinger has also acted as a member of Bob Geldof's backing band.

In an interview with Chicago Tribune freelancer Jay Hedblade, Wallinger revealed that he suffered a brain aneurysm in February 2001. He has made a full recovery and resumed touring in 2006.

thanx lee - i like what i've heard of wallinger's music with the waterboiys & world party; and i also liked the soundtrack of the film 'reality bites'.

gene simmons certainly isn't my favourite KISS member - i like ace frhehley (the spaceman)

keshi - so u like KISS - yes u could say some of their lyrics are sensual - actually some KISS lyrics might well be called 'highly suggestive of sex', or similar!

sultans of swing - 'u get a shiver in the dark / it's a-raining in the park and meantime ....' ;-D

keshi and fergal -my favourite song of theirs is So Far Away . Used to have it on a compilation tape and it came after the song Almost With You (by the Church). Now everytime I hear Amost With You I want to hear So Far Away afterwards which is frustrating if it's on the radio or something! :).

well i know that phenomenon wher u get used to hearing a certain song follow another, and then u get used to & expect that same song to always follow it!

'so far away' - at the end of high school iwas in a band and that was one of the songs we played! very simple chords, but effective. actually on the 'brothers in arms' album, i love the title track!.

until further notice, this blog is going to be dedicated to music, with lee, keshi & myself (and maybe a few other [semi-]regular readers) in mind!!! so be it ...
